This is a test animation created by your's truly during the development of "The Legend of Tembo" -- an animated feature film that will sadly never be released. Probably the pinnacle of my experience working on this production was creating this animation. The entire production team was tasked with testing the studio pipeline, during which time a short sequence of shots were created and sent through each department. This animation is actually one part of a much larger shot shared by 3 other animators. Not only were we tasked with animating our portion of the shot, but the beginning and end of each section had to seamlessly line up with what the other animators were doing. This was perhaps the most technically challenging animation I've encountered -- and I couldn't be more proud with the results from the team as a whole. This is a test animation created by your's truly during the development of "The Legend of Tembo" -- an animated feature film that will sadly never be released. My first task as an animator on this film was to do a 3D animated recreation of a 2D pencil test animated by the co-director of the film, Aaron Blaise. I can't think of a more daunting initiation into the team. In the end I learned a LOT from this exercise and I believe the exact quite from Aaron upon seeing the completed animation was, "Holy shit-balls." This is a test animation created by your's truly during the development of "The Legend of Tembo" -- an animated feature film that will sadly never be released. The primary objective of this task was to explore the complex body mechanics of elephant locomotion and how to exaggerate those mechanics in a way that skirts the uncanny valley that divides realistic and cartoony motion. This test was also a way for the animation team to test and break early iterations of the animation rig. The scene I decided to animated was inspired by a discarded sequence from the Tembo story reel in which our title character plays wack-a-mole with a devious meerkat. I used a ball in place of the meekat seeing as though we didn't have a rig for that character. Again, thanks for watching and enjoy!
